In June 2025, I had the privilege of presenting at the [Conference Name] on a topic very close to my heart: Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and its place in the rapidly changing mental health landscape.
In my presentation, I explored how EMDR has become such an important therapy in responding to the complex needs of clients today. As an EMDRAA accredited consultant and long-time counsellor, I shared both the science behind EMDR and the personal journey that led me to specialise in this powerful modality.
I walked the audience through the evidence base showing EMDR’s effectiveness in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and a wide range of other presentations. To bring this to life, I presented case studies that highlighted how EMDR helps clients move beyond past pain, fostering resilience, recovery, and long-lasting change.
One of the key points I highlighted was EMDR’s adaptability—how it can be used across different populations and settings, making it a truly inclusive and sustainable therapy.
Beyond the clinical aspects, I also reflected on how EMDR has transformed my own practice. It has shifted the way I work with clients and deepened my understanding of the brain’s natural capacity to heal.
It was a privilege to contribute to the broader conversation about how innovative, evidence-based therapies like EMDR can help shape the future of mental health care. My hope is to inspire more counsellors to explore EMDR and witness for themselves the life-changing impact it can bring to their clients.
